The NEA Working Party on International Nuclear Data Evaluation Co-operation (WPEC) had its 37th annual meeting this June in Brussels, Belgium, hosted by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre.
WPEC is a group of international experts, made up of 20 countries and 2 international organisations, working to promote the exchange of information on nuclear data evaluation, measurement, nuclear model calculation, validation, and other related topics. Contained within the structure of the working party, there are four sub-groups and two expert groups.
During the week-long meeting, participants discussed latest achievements, the current programme of work, and upcoming activities.
The subgroups include:
- Evaluation, processing, and validation in the unresolved resonance region (subgroup 51);
- Development and application of advanced methodologies to produce application-specific nuclear data (subgroup 52);
- Stable Zirconium evaluations and validation (subgroup 53); and
- Continuation of subgroup 50: Developing an automatically readable, comprehensive, and curated experimental reaction database.
The Expert Groups include the Expert Group on the High Priority Request List (EGHRPL) for Nuclear Data and the Expert Group on the Recommended Definition of a General Nuclear Database Structure (EGGNDS). EGHRPL is responsible for managing activities related to nuclear data measurement requests for the HPRL, a point of reference for nuclear data research and development. EGGNDS is an expert group that ensures that standardisation in nuclear data formats for storing and exchanging evaluated nuclear data can be accessed as new needs, technological developments, and applications are used in nuclear data research.
The annual meetings help ensure that WPEC can continue working to improve the quality of nuclear data.
