The CNRA believes that safety inspections are a major element in the regulatory authority's efforts to ensure the safe operation of nuclear facilities. Considering the importance of these issues, the Committee established a special Working Group on Inspection Practices (WGIP) in 1990. The purpose of the WGIP is to facilitate the exchange of information and experience related to regulatory safety inspections among NEA member countries. At present, 19 NEA member countries participate in the work of the WGIP. Mr. Steve Lewis, Nuclear Installations Inspectorate (NII), United Kingdom, is the current chair. Mr. Julio Crespo, Consejo de Seguridad Nuclear (CSN), Spain, serves as vice-chair.
