Security of energy supply for electricity generation
This meeting took place at the International Energy Agency, 24 May 2005. The workshop addressed the following issues:
- The concept of security of energy supply applied to the power sector, both from a pure economic perspective and in terms of political realities in the context of competitive electricity markets.
- The impacts on technologies and fuel choices of the security of energy supply approach and its related implemented policies.
- The policy options available to governments to address the security of energy supply for power generation in the context of liberalised markets.

Power Generation Investment in Liberalised Electricity Markets, 25-26

The overall objective of the meeting was to bring together policy
makers and analysts from governmental agencies and the industry as well
as other stakeholders with expertise in the field of power generation
investment to:
- examine the effect of electricity market liberalisation on investor
perceptions;
- review the new tools developed to evaluate investment in liberalised
electricity markets;
- examine the implications of new investor perceptions on generating
technology;
- assess the potential tradeoffs and synergies between government
policy objectives e.g. security of supply and environment, and goals
of power sector investors;
- consider the influence of environmental regulations on investment
preferences; and
- review the experience of the measures at the disposal of governments
to shape the development of competitive markets.
