Frequently asked questions related to the code's porting
to different systems
Question
1: How difficult will it be to port SAMMY to my system?
Answer 1: Beginning with Version M5, porting SAMMY
to another system is fairly straightforward. The code has been tested
on a wide variety of UNIX- and VMS-based workstations, and on pc's using
either LINUX or WINDOWS. Detailed instructions are provided by RSICC or
NEA when the code is sent to you.
Question 2: In porting older versions of SAMMY to my system, the compile
and link steps seem to work OK, but only the first module will run; it
ends with indecipherable error messages. Only one output file is generated
(SAMMY.LPT) and it contains only the header with the author's name and
address. What's happening?
Answer 2
NOTE: The next release of the SAMMY code uses a more modern distribution system,
which should eliminate most of the previous problems with portability.
