An international bidding process was opened in 2006 to develop a programme to increase the power of the two reactors of the Laguna Verde Nuclear Power Plant by out-of-core modifications. This Extended Power Upgrade (EPU) contract was awarded to IBERDROLA in February 2007. Preliminary works are planned to start in August 2008 for Unit 1 and in April 2009 for Unit 2.
The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) awarded to Global Nuclear Fuel a fuel fabrication contract for three reloads with GE14 fuel in order to prepare both units of the Laguna Verde Power Plant for the Extended Power Upgrade.
