Machines used:
Package-ID Orig.Computer Test Computer
CCC-0228/01 IBM 360 series
3.
DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM OR FUNCTION - SPAR computes the stopping powers and ranges for muons, pions, protons and heavy ions in any nongaseous medium at energies from zero to several hundred GeV.
4.
METHOD OF SOLUTION - A different calculational procedure is used to compute the stopping powers in each of three (beta, z) regions, where beta is the speed of the particle relative to the speed of light and z is the nuclear charge of the particle. The procedures are described in the code document.
5.
RESTRICTIONS ON THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEM - None noted. 6.
TYPICAL RUNNING TIME - On the IBM 360/91, about one second is required to compute stopping powers and ranges at about 100 energy points for one stopping medium. The packaged sample problem executed in 10 seconds.
7.
UNUSUAL FEATURES OF THE PROGRAM - 8.
RELATED AND AUXILIARY PROGRAMS - 9.
STATUS 10.
REFERENCES - 11.
MACHINE REQUIREMENTS - SPAR is operable on the IBM360/370 computers with standard I-O. It uses 96K storage in the GO step.
12.
PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE(S) USED - 13.
OPERATING SYSTEM UNDER WHICH PROGRAM IS EXECUTED - A Fortran IV compiler is required.
