DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM OR FUNCTION - GAMLEG-JR generates ANISN-format multi-group photon cross sections and group averated gamma-ray energy absorption coefficients for use in the Sn-type transport calculations.
4.
METHOD OF SOLUTION - GAMLEG-JR is a modification of GAMLEG (2) to produce multi-group photon cross sections for use in the Sn-type transport codes. In the GAMLEG code, the cross section data for the photoelectric effect, pair production and coherent scattering are read in tabular form by cards.
5.
RESTRICTIONS ON THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEM - The present code is written in FORTRAN-IV. The program provides up to 50-energy groups and up to nine Legendre moments for each of unlimited number of elements.
6.
TYPICAL RUNNING TIME - Running time required to generate the cross sections of 20 group structure and nine Legendre moments for a element is about 6 seconds in CPU on the FACOM 230-60/75.
7.
UNUSUAL FEATURES OF THE PROGRAM - 8.
RELATED AND AUXILIARY PROGRAMS - The program will, by input option, punch cards or write a tape for use column entries are in ANISN. For each group, the column entries are sigma(heat), sigma(a), 0.0 , sigma(t), sigma(g to g), sigma(g+1 to g),..... . The heading of each table identifies the element by its atomic number and the Legendre component by Pn, n=0, 1, 2, ... , NMAX-1.

GAMLEG-JR generates these cross section data by simple empirical formula (3) as a function of atomic number Z. The code also produces the group-averaged gamma-ray energy absorption coefficient (KERMA factor) (4). GAMLEG calculated analytically the energy integral of an equation for the average transfer cross section. However, this integration method was found not to be adequate for obtaining the highed Legendre moments than 6th order at low energy region below about0.1 MeV.
GAMLEG-JR calculates this integral by the numerical integration based on Simpson's rule for equally spaced mu.
